We had the good fortune of receiving the Nokia G60 5G at work just in time for an unboxing, but we were also able to get our hands on some of Nokia's other brand-new gadgets at IFA 2022 in Berlin. Here is a hands-on of the Nokia X30 5G, Nokia C31, and Nokia T21 smartphones and tablets without further ado.
Nokia 5G X30
The Nokia X30 5G is the brand's most expensive current model, as seen by the presence of an OLED display, which hasn't been seen on a Nokia phone since the 9 PureView from 2019.
The display is a 6.43-inch 1080x2400px panel with a refresh rate of 90Hz and a peak brightness of 700 nits. It has Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The panel has room for a fingerprint scanner because it is an OLED.
The phone has a metal frame, but it is entirely constructed of recycled aluminium. Meanwhile, 65% of the plastic used to make the back panel is also recycled.
The Nokia X30 5G has two cameras on the back: a 13MP 1/3.06" ultrawide with an f/2.4 lens and a 50MP 1/1.56" sensor with a wide f/1.8 optically stabilised lens.
The duo of cameras also has DX+-type Gorilla Glass protection.
The 16MP selfie camera lacks autofocus and features a sensor.
The Nokia X30 5G runs on a 6nm Snapdragon 695 5G processor with a choice of 6GB or 8GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB (UFS 2.2) or 256GB (UFS 3.0), which are both extendable via the microSDXC slot.
Future users of the X30 5G will benefit from 3 years of OS upgrades and security patches, as well as a 3-year guarantee, thanks to Nokia's 3-3-3 pledge. The Nokia X30 5G is therefore protected at least through Android 15.
A 4,200mAh battery with 33W charging power powers the phone. According to Nokia, the battery should last for at least 800 cycles.
The Nokia X30 5G is packaged in a smaller box composed of 94% recycled paper, consistent with the recycled materials used in the body. You will receive a USB cord in addition to the phone, but no charger or case.
The IP67 classification for water and dust resistance is an intriguing fact. Additionally, there is an IR blaster—cool!
Starting today, the Nokia X30 5G will be sold throughout the world for a starting price of €530 ($530/42,000). You can choose from the Cloudy Blue or Ice White colour schemes.
Nokia C31
I'll now talk about the 4G Nokia C31. This is a practical tool that will get the job done, last all day, and won't break the bank.
The Unisoc 9863A1 chipset, a vintage 28nm device with an octa-core Cortex-A55 (1.6GHz) processor and PowerVR GE8322 graphics, powers the Nokia C31. Memory choices range from 3/32GB to 4/64GB to 4/128GB, with 3/32GB being the lowest.
The front features a huge 6.75-inch HD+ LCD and a 5MP selfie camera, while the back has a 13MP primary, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth camera setup. For added security, you can utilise the fingerprint scanner situated on the back of the device or the selfie camera for face unlocking.
A full version of Android 12 with a guarantee of two years of quarterly security updates is installed on the Nokia C31 (no word on OS updates, though).
The Nokia C31 has an outstanding 5,050mAh battery and is IP52-rated for dust and dripping water. It charges at a meagre 10W over a less remarkable microUSB connector.
Today marks the global release of the Nokia C31, with prices starting at €240 ($240/19,000) for the entry-level 3/32GB variant.
Nokia T21
The Nokia T21, a simple and relatively affordable tablet with optional 4G connectivity, will serve as our final example.
Starting at the back, the Nokia T21 boasts a sizable 8,200mAh battery with 18W charging, which, according to Nokia, is adequate for at least 800 charging cycles.
The tablet's processor is an eight-core, 12nm Unisoc T612 chipset with a MaliG52 GPU and two Cortex-A75 and six Cortex-A-55 cores. There are 64GB or 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.
HMD guarantees two OS updates, three years of monthly security updates, and Android 12 as standard.
A 10.4-inch, 15:9 LCD with a resolution of 2,000x1,200 pixels is located up front. The panel can be used as a supplementary display for a Windows PC and supports active styli (Wacom WGP and Wacom Active ES 2.0).
Thanks to the 8MP front-facing camera, you may use it to make video calls or watch videos (it has a Netflix HD certification) (there is another 8MP module on the back). Additionally, you shouldn't worry too much about breaking it because the tablet is IP52-rated and has an aluminium body that is rather durable (plus, the antennas are covered in 50% recycled plastic for improved reception).
The Nokia T21 tablet is available today for €130 ($130/10,500) for a Wi-Fi machine with 4 or 64GB of memory. There is also a 4G LTE variant available.
